SMALL CHOICES
Small Choices in a nonprofit organization founded by Oncology Nurse Kate Poppert to improve the cancer journey for adult patients and their caregivers, empowering them to choose different programs during their hospital stay and join others facing similar paths. Cancer has directly impacted every board member and volunteer, which is why each person brings their own experiences and knowledge to the foundation to ensure they offer compassionate and personalized services to patients and caregivers on the front lines.
The following are some of the services they provide to those on their cancer journey:
Isolation relief – With the help of hospital staff with access to patients, Small Choices aided patients who were not allowed to have any outside visitors during the COVID-19 pandemic with grocery shopping, takeout food orders, and even laundry services. The foundation continued the program to provide relief to out-of-state patients and those who have little to no caregiver support.
Survival kits – To make the inpatient stay and ongoing cancer journey easier, each patient/caregiver team chooses items that have been recommended by other survivors and caregivers from an online store.
Memory makers – Patients without any further treatment options are given an opportunity to create a memory they can share with their loved ones before they enter hospice care.
Check out the many different ways you can support this foundation and make a positive impact on these patients’ and caregivers’ lives.
