Sarah Zane is an associate attorney that practices in all areas of family law including complex contested divorces, high conflict child custody orders and modifications, grandparent rights, and child support. Sarah is a former magistrate in the 16th Judicial District who, through a broad range of experiences, has developed a passionate, client-centered approach to advocating on behalf of each person she serves. As a magistrate, Sarah handled all matters associated with family law, including divorces, child custody matters, child support, and property division. Sarah is known as a creative problem solver of complex family disputes. In 2021, Sarah was awarded the Judicial Excellence Award for Magistrates by the Colorado Judicial Institute. This award is given annually to recognize one magistrate throughout the state that best exemplifies excellence in the courts. Sarah was recognized by her peers for her extraordinary courage in handling difficult matters, and for her commitment to the community she served.
Prior to becoming a magistrate, Sarah spent eight years with the Colorado State Public Defender’s Office, where she developed into a skilled and savvy trial lawyer. Additionally, Sarah fought for her clients as an attorney with Colorado Legal Services, representing people from all walks of life in a wide variety of legal matters. Through these experiences, Sarah has developed a vast knowledge of the law that she applies to every case.
Sarah received her Juris Doctorate from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Michigan. She has a Bachelor of Applied Arts in Family Studies and Public Communication from Central Michigan University. As an undergraduate, Sarah was the runner-up in the Lincoln-Douglas Debate, a national debate competition that emphasizes logic, ethical values and philosophy. She also received an annual award given out by the Governor of Michigan to one undergraduate student for having outstanding commitment to community service. Sarah was recognized for teaching public speaking skills in prisons, feeding her neighbors at the local food bank, and coaching high school speech and debate.
When Sarah is not busy helping her clients resolve their legal issues, she enjoys driving her boat, grilling steaks, and raising her children to be strong and positive influences in the Colorado Springs community.
